I know this was supposed to be a blog about writing, and my mutterings of things worldly and common might be considered an offense, but in a halfhearted apology for my ramblings, they are, oddly enough, the ramblings of a writer (lowercase w), and worthy of the same read as my creative endeavors. I hope in the end you will forgive me for sharing them. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you’ll have already found that the short stories are lessening in their Read the rest of this entry »
I was watching Wall Street last night, you know the one with Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas slicking their hair back reciting dribble that has become modern American lexicon? Now I’m not even going to mention (outside of this sentence) how sad that is, because in order for a speech that is entitled “Greed is Good,” to become an American slogan it would mean that Americans are douche bags; for greed upon itself is not good, Read the rest of this entry »
So all the ducks were in a row, and the mountains collided and time and space had been opened for me (AGAIN), and here I sit with something profound and noteworthy to say about being a writer, and how it encompasses my soul and blah, blah, BLAH! No matter how third grade it sounds, I actually have a best friend. I’m not sure he’d take a bullet for me, but I assure you I’d take one for him. I think that Read the rest of this entry »
It’s strange to me that no one has noticed that I haven’t been posting to my blog, nor has there been an UnpublishedNotDead podcast in a long time (although the Reno Show rocks). Well folks, my creativity has been at a halt, and no one seemed to notice, and me with my undying belief that the world stops when I leave a room was left with a empty Read the rest of this entry »
By my calculations every man, woman, and child in this country will be donating $49.81 to the automobile industry some time this week. This is on top of the $996.21 dollars they already donated to the banking industry. This actually adds up to about $1400 per adult, but that math is contingent on every adult paying federal income taxes, which isn’t necessarily true. Depending on whom you believe, around 36% of Americans either do not pay, or actually Read the rest of this entry »
I wrote this brilliant blog the other day about how I finally discovered how being all dialogue and no story was okay, and probably the most perfect thing a writer can be, but it’ll have to wait, because my fucking computer crashed … well crashed is the wrong Read the rest of this entry »
Okay, I promised one of my “message” stories, so here it is … I quiver to the notion that this is downright insulting, but it proves a point. No matter how smart you think you are, it is kind of stupid to try and make a point … or maybe you’ll like it, a lot of people did.

Look, my life didn’t change the day I met Randy; it’s not quite that dramatic. My politics, and my religious views are the same today as they were yesterday. Honestly, I have to say if I were faced with the same situation again, I probably Read the rest of this entry »
The past couple days I finally got in touch with an old friend of mine. We exchanged a couple emails, and I ended up writing her a light-hearted note that was designed to renew our old friendship, which I had recalled with some pretty fond memories. I asked her about her life, and how odd the current path of her life would have looked to her younger self (as would anyone’s I assume), and she threw me back a hostile bitter retort that could only be considered Read the rest of this entry »
My last post was about self-promotion, but what I failed to mention, and probably the most important part, is that self-promotion is pretty useless unless you know exactly what is great about you. In other words, it’s not enough to tell people how great your work is, Read the rest of this entry »
I keep forgetting this is a blog is about writing, publishing, and well … frankly not about my life (mostly, although a writer’s life is surely part of the total package and should be celebrated and not avoided). I’ve sat through endless lectures about how to begin a story; once upon a time the door opened and he walked in kind of shit. And truth be told there are several different ways to begin a story. I don’t think I can tell anyone how to begin a story, because Read the rest of this entry »
